There’s something so magical about fall in Minnesota—the crisp air, the golden leaves, and the way the soft, warm light wraps around everything just right. And this recent family photoshoot at Lake Elmo Park Reserve was no exception!
I had the absolute pleasure of capturing this sweet family of six—mom, dad, and their four incredible kids: two boys and two girls. From the moment we started, their energy and love for each other made every shot feel so natural. We balanced classic, timeless portraits with joyful candids, capturing both the beautiful chaos and the tender moments that make family life so special.
The Perfect Fall Backdrop
Lake Elmo Park Reserve gave us the most stunning setting, with tall golden grasses, open fields, and a subtle tree line in the background showing off their autumn colors. The leaves and grass crunched beneath our feet as the kids ran around, laughing and joking—exactly the kind of moments I love to freeze in time.
Posed & Playful Moments
We started with some traditional posed portraits, making sure to capture those frame-worthy family shots where everyone was looking and smiling. But the real magic happened when we leaned into the candid moments—Dad swinging the youngest on his shoulders, Mom admiring all her kids, and all four siblings exploring the setting.
One of my favorite images? The kids holding smiling at the camera through mom and dad’s embraced hands- see below!
Why Fall Sessions Are So Special
There’s a reason why fall is one of my favorite seasons for family photos. The soft, golden light and the cozy, earthy tones make for such a warm, timeless look. Plus, bundling up in cute layers—think neutrals with subtle rich color—adds texture and dimension to every shot.
This session was a perfect example of why we love what we do—capturing real love, real laughter, and the sweet, fleeting moments that make up family life.
If you’re dreaming of your own fall family photos, we’d love to help you create something just as special! 🍂✨
