Recently, I had the joy of capturing baby Maxine at just three weeks old in a cozy and love-filled newborn photoshoot.

When Is the Best Time for a Newborn Photoshoot?

Many parents wonder when the best time is to schedule a newborn photography session. The first two-three weeks are often ideal for those super sleepy, curled-up poses, Little Maxine was the perfect example—snuggling into soft wraps, stretching those little arms, and even giving us a few sweet expressions!

Tips for a Successful Newborn Photoshoot at 3 Weeks Old

If you’re planning a newborn session and your baby is already past the two-week mark, don’t worry! Here are some tips to ensure a smooth and beautiful photoshoot:

• Keep the baby warm – A cozy environment helps them stay relaxed and sleepy.

• Have extra feedings ready – A full baby is a happy baby! Feedings before and during the session keep them content. A pacifier is also very helpful for a quick soothing session.

• Embrace awake moments – While newborns often sleep through photos, older newborns may have more alert moments, which can lead to some truly heartwarming expressions.

• Go with the flow – Babies have their own timeline, so we allow plenty of time for breaks and cuddles. We reserve 2.5. hours per newborn session so there is no rush and plenty of flexibility.
